Newt Summer Tournament

TIME SENSITIVE: See info below if you are interested in Summer Tournament

Newt Families of Players ages 8 and up:

We are trying to gauge if there's enough interest to put together a summer tournament team(s).

Who: Any Newt Guilbault player who is 12 or under who is interested in competitive summer baseball. The tournament options for Cal Ripken are 12U, 11U, 10U, 9U.

What: Competitive traveling tournament baseball team (emphasis on COMPETITIVE)

Where: Unknown at this point how far the tournaments would be but some could be a distance around New England which could include hotel stays.

When: Practices would start beg/mid June at the Newt fields with tournaments throughout the summer on the weekends. We cannot sign up for tournaments until we know if we have committed players therefore we don’t have specific dates.

Why: To give our players a competitive baseball experience and represent our league around New England

Fees: Tournament fees will be assessed once we know how many kids we will have and how many tournaments we will enter. Some tournament fees will be covered by Newt Guilbault (per our bylaws) and some will be paid with registration fees which players are required to pay. Additionally we will provide a uniform that will be included in this fee. We will most likely do some fundraising but a fee of at least $100 per player could be charged (might be more depending on our numbers and how many tournaments we play in).

Tryouts: Tryouts will be Saturday May 20 from 1:30-3.

This will be a skills evaluation/tryout and some players may be cut based on interest, skill and numbers for the tournament regulations. Please talk to your player ahead of time about this so they are not disappointed if they are cut. The tournament options for Cal Ripken are 12U, 11U, 10U, 9U. Once we know of the committed kids, we will assess which age group(s) we will have teams for.

If you cannot make this tryout but you are interested, please contact President, Kyle Cogswell by FRIDAY MAY 19. Call or text: 413.522.3150. We cannot accommodate any late additions to this team as everything is extremely time sensitive.

Shout Out

Shout out to our incredible board and our OAP.

Tonight the Newt board met for our 5th meeting of the 2023 season. I looked around at the dedicated group and couldn't help but feel gratitude for the team we have of our own. Everyone involved with organizing, planning, beyond the scenes work are the true MVP's of Newt Guilbault and the reason we have 98 players signed up this year. Huge shoutout to our Newt team.

Fall Ball 2022 registration is open until Aug 17!

Go to FORMS and click 2022 Fall Ball registration to fill out the form to register

FALL BALL REGISTRATION: OPENS AUGUST 1 AND ENDS AUGUST 17. Shirts take 3 weeks to come in so this end date is very important.

Hello Newt families! We hope you've had a fun summer!

We are excited for the Fall Ball 2022 season. This year the season will run for 7 weeks. Fall ball is kid pitch baseball.

Games are played on weekends (Saturdays at 10am and Sundays at 12pm) during fall ball. HOWEVER-- some teams will not play both days. Please be flexible with this as it will depend on our numbers for the exact schedule. Practices are at the discretion of the coach and could be once or twice during the week, or none at all depending on the coach's availability.

Age requirements: Fall ball is open to 8-12 year olds with the following rule:

****Players must be 8 on our before May 1, 2022, no exceptions

****Players cannot have reached their 13th birthday before May 1, 2023 (born after 5/1/10)

Games will be played on the following weekends:

9/10-11, 9/17-18, 9/24-25, 10/1-2, 10/8-9, 10/15-16, 10/22-23

Uniform shirts and hats will be provided. Players are expected to wear their own baseball pants.

Fall Ball is about meeting new players, exploring interest in the sport, trying out a variety of positions, and most of all, having fun! This is perfect for new players who are ready for kid-pitched baseball. We are excited to build up kids' confidence in the various areas of the game. Fall ball is not meant to be a competetive, championship oriented season. Games will conclude on 10/23/22 and there will not be a championship. Additionally, fall ball does not have the same rules as the spring season. Two things that are very different are: 12 year olds are not allowed to pitch and all kids names will be put into age categories and kids will be placed on teams so an equal amount of 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 year olds are on each team. They will not be on the same team as the spring season. Siblings will be placed on the same team.

COACHES! Coaches are needed to run the fall ball season. If you are interested in coaching please contact us ASAP.

Finally, our concession stand will be open during games this fall. We rely on the revenue from the stand to run our league. We require that all families volunteer their time in the concession stand to make this a reality. Your coaches will reach out when the time comes to schedule your time slot.

**IMPORTANT WHEN REGISTERING: On the registration form at the very end there is a question about opting out of emails for fall ball. Legally our webmaster has to ask you this, however, email is our main form of communication to families and so we kindly ask that you opt in to the emails. Thanks for your help with this.

We are looking forward to a fun fall ball season!

Please contact league President, Kyle Cogswell at 413.522.3150 or email newtguilbaultbaseball@gmail.com with any questions.

CALL FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS

Looking for 2022 graduating seniors who played at least 4 years of Newt Guilbault

Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League is proud to offer the Frederick S. Lego Scholarship in the amount of $500 to a graduating senior from Turners Falls High School or Franklin County Technical School who played at least 4 years of baseball with our league.

The $500 scholarship that is awarded by Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League has been handed out for more than 20 years. The scholarship is awarded to one senior every year that has played at least 4 years in the league and who has shown excellence in academics and citizenship. Almost 10 years ago an amazing volunteer of our league by the name of Frederick S. Lego passed away and the executive board voted to have the league scholarship renamed after him. Mr. Lego selflessly volunteered as a coach, groundskeeper, and board member until he was no longer able. He was a fan of youth baseball and a pillar in the community for many years.

If you believe you qualify for this scholarship please contact league secretary, Lesley Cogswell for an application at newtguilbaultbaseball@gmail.com by Monday, June 13, 2022.

June calendar

Below you’ll find the calendar for June 2022.

Newt families-

We hope you had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend and you are recharged for the last few weeks of our baseball season.

Below you'll find the calendar for June 2022.

Tonight I will hand out copies of this to the coaches for each player. For Majors, this schedule differs slightly from the original schedule regarding playoffs and championship week. However, we are sticking to our goal of completing the season by Friday, June 17th for folks who have vacations already scheduled. We understand that the original schedule notes "All Star Weekend" on 6/10-6/12. With 5 Majors teams this year and trying to complete the season by 6/17, we have had to postpone All Star Weekend. We will try to schedule this for sometime in the summer. For new families who may be unfamiliar with All Star Weekend, it is a time when coaches choose all stars from each team and they play a game against other all stars from another league (most likely it'll be Hinsdale since we've been playing against them). There are also field events incorporated into the day (the golden arm, home run derby, etc).

We hope this calendar helps and we look forward to the last leg of the Newt Guilbault Community Baseball season!

Newt tournament team?

Do we have enough interest to run a summer 2022 tournament team?

Newt Families:

Our own Booskas Coach, Josh Newton is trying to gage if there's enough interest to put together a summer tournament team.

Who: Any Newt Guilbault player who is 11 or under who is interested in competitive summer baseball

What: Traveling tournament baseball team

Where: Unknown at this point how far the tournaments would be but some could be a distance around New England

When: Practices would start beg/mid June at the Newt fields with tournaments throughout the summer on the weekends

Why: To give our players a competitive baseball experience and represent our league around New England

Please contact Josh Newton by 5/27/22 at jnewton41301@gmail.com if your child might have an interest. We are not 100 percent sure if we will have enough kids interested but this will give us an idea. Josh will contact you if you've shown interest and this is a go. Try outs might occur if there is an abundance of interest.
